062: Abbott's Get Together Day 4 - 2012

Just before the final evening show, we got an inside wrap up the 75th Get-Together with owner and organizer, Greg Bordner. The information for next year's Get-Together is already posted at: http://magicgettogether.com/ Following the show and the awards presentation at the elementary school, the group continued the reverie in the village.

I caught up with Stan Allen who talked about this Get-Together, MAGIC Live! and the Essential Magic Conference. We recorded this chat with Stan outside the Legion Hall in hopes that it would be much quieter. Indeed it was; however, the wind picked up and there is some wind noise in this part of the podcast. Please forgive the poor quality of the recording of this chat, but I decided to leave it in because of the quality of the discussion. For dates, registration and more information on MAGIC Live!, visit: http://www.magicmagazine.com/live/

Before we called it a night, I talked with Al the Only and Don Wiberg who together gave a nice wrap and overview of the entire convention. Then just before we signed off, Dana Daniels came out of the Legion Hall so we got to chat with him about him winning the Senator Clark Crandall Comedy Award for Excellence, his "No Show Show" and his future. For information on booking Dana, you can find more information at: http://danadaniels.com/Dana_Daniels.html

Photos from Abbott's Day 4

The final day continued with excellent weather most of the day until the evening show when storms threatened but held at bay allowing a nearly full house of over 1,400 people to attend. In the picture below, you can play a little game of "Where's Waldo" with a rabbit.

After the final show, most of the registrants went over to the elementary school where awards were given to the performers such as the Bill Baird Manipulation Award, the Clark Crandall Comedy Award and more. The picture below shows Gay Blackstone on stage receiving an honorary award.
The picture below shows Adele Friel Rhindress sandwiched between Jessica and Michael Blanco ("The Rhythym of Magic") who closed the Saturday night show. It is great to see an assistant from the Blackstone, Sr. show recognizing the new generation. The convention went out in style with people continuing to enjoy camaraderie into the early hours of Sunday morning.

061: Abbott's Get Together Day 3 - 2012

During a quiet moment of an evening party inside the lake house of Jerry Costello, Michael Mode chatted with me as we talked about the evening shows on Days 1 & 2 of the a 2012 Get-Together. We also talked with the party's host, Jerry Costello, about his annual party "Abbott's at Costellos". During the intermission of the evening's stage show, we had all too brief but poignant conversation with Dan Witkowski about major brand marketing with magic. After the stage show and outdoor fireworks show, we went back to the Legion Hall where we talked with Mark Holstein, Stage Manager, then concluded the evening with a chat with Andrew Michals, proprietor of Invisble Threads, a new line of clothing for magicians. You can find more information about his line at http://www.invisiblethreadsclothing.com/
