443 banner.jpg

Don Wiberg is a Past International President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. and a great historian of Chicago's rich magic history. In this first of two parts, the early part of this podcast includes a nostalgic walk through some of Chicago's magic shops that were tightly distributed within a few blocks of downtown Chicago. The latter half of this podcast is filled with stories of some of the early members of the Chicago Round Table.

341: Houdini-Opoly with Dick Brookz and Dorothy Dietrich

Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brookz own and operate the Houdini Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania. They have both led extraordinary lives and worthy of talking more about their Houdini museum, the Houdini seance, and the former Magic Townhouse in New York City. They talk about all these things but the purpose of this particular podcast is to help the magic world learn more about their newest project, "Houdini-Opoly"

They have been working on this board game for over two years and with the Kickstarter campaign now being fully funded just before this podcast was released. So not it's on to meet their "stretch" goals to pay for the "enhancements". Thanks to your support, it appears that it will be in production soon this year. The Magic Word Podcast is selective in providing a platform for promoting individuals or pet projects. But this is one I support and think is of particular interest to our community. But even if you choose not to support the cause and buy a game, the rest of our chat is interesting as we talk about the old Magic Townhouse in New York City and why it closed and the museum moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania. We also discuss the Houdini seance and the museum.

Help the Kickstarter Campaign and get your "one of a kind" collectible Houdini board game. You can't escape the fun!

306: On The Road To Colon 2016

On the way to the 79th Abbott's Get Together in Colon, Michigan, we depart Houston, Texas for Chicago, Illinois. Our first stop is at the new headquarters for Magic, Inc. and a visit with the Manager, Pedro Nieves. He gives a delightful tour of their new space plus a couple magic demos for some customers. From there we're off to the Chicago Magic Lounge, the bi-weekly hot spot for Live magic in Chicago. They have stage and close-up shows each Thursday and Saturday evenings. Be sure to check out both Magic, Inc. and the Chicago Magic Lounge when you are in Chi-Town.

Then after a couple days in Chicago with friends, we travel to Michigan and check into the motel but immediately take a drive to an Amish community in northern Indiana where we meet up with other magicians to have dinner and entertain several Amish families. Then later that night, it's on to Colon for a party with David Seebach and many more friends who arrived early for the Get Together. All of this is prior to getting our registration packet for the Get Together.

Pedro Nieves Bosque demonstrates "Klaus the Mouse", one of the best selling tricks at Magic, Inc. in Chicago.
