499: David Regal - Scene and Heard

499 banner.jpg

While attending the 2019 F.F.F.F. convention, my voice was hoarse but it did not prevent me from recording an outstanding conversation with one of our craft’s most creative writers, David Regal. David is a producer of “The Carbonaro Effect”, one of the more popular TV shows in America. He is also author of “Approaching Magic” and a new book, “Interpreting Magic”, that will soon be on the market. David also is a favorite performer at the Magic Castle and creator of several original, marketed effects. And as if that isn’t enough, he is a scriptwriter for television sitcoms.

498: Pat Hazell - Part Two: Still Standing

498 banner temp 1.jpg

In this week’s episode, we pick up where we left off last week with Pat Hazell as we sit in the living room of his home in Austin, Texas. In this second and final part of our discussion, Pat talks about the “real work” behind success. In this podcast, there is invaluable advice from a real pro. He also talks about several projects he has produced and is producing. This will become one of my favorite top ten podcast on The Magic Word.

The Wonder Bread Years Starring Pat Hazell (former Seinfeld writer) is a fast-paced, hilarious production that gracefully walks the line between standup and theater. Audiences across the country are enjoying a show that not only restores a much-needed sense of wonder, but leaves audiences laughing and savoring the past like never before.

This week when we pick up where we left off last week with a funny story about Pat losing a check for his New Year’s Eve show in Lubbock, Texas when he was performing with Terry Seabrooke (see the photo of the three of us on the blog). He also talks about some of his TV pilots including his production of “Bunk Bed Brothers” that turned into the television sitcom, “American Pie”, but also a story about why one of his series failed due to a mix-up of a a show being aired at the wrong time that damaged the package. He also shares several funny stories plus giving us some valuable advice along the way.

341: Houdini-Opoly with Dick Brookz and Dorothy Dietrich

Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brookz own and operate the Houdini Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania. They have both led extraordinary lives and worthy of talking more about their Houdini museum, the Houdini seance, and the former Magic Townhouse in New York City. They talk about all these things but the purpose of this particular podcast is to help the magic world learn more about their newest project, "Houdini-Opoly"

They have been working on this board game for over two years and with the Kickstarter campaign now being fully funded just before this podcast was released. So not it's on to meet their "stretch" goals to pay for the "enhancements". Thanks to your support, it appears that it will be in production soon this year. The Magic Word Podcast is selective in providing a platform for promoting individuals or pet projects. But this is one I support and think is of particular interest to our community. But even if you choose not to support the cause and buy a game, the rest of our chat is interesting as we talk about the old Magic Townhouse in New York City and why it closed and the museum moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania. We also discuss the Houdini seance and the museum.

Help the Kickstarter Campaign and get your "one of a kind" collectible Houdini board game. You can't escape the fun!
