449: Bill Malone and Charlie Frye & Co. - Seriously Funny!

449 banner.jpg

While attending the 2018 MAGIC Live! convention, we were able to get together with some of the many talented performers who were in attendance. Bill Malone and Charlie and Sherry Frye have been on the list to record for a long time. Fortunately the stars aligned (quite literally) as Sherry was able to pull her husband Charlie and her "other husband" Bill together to all sit in the same room for a chat. With no agenda, this conversation got wacky and out of control fast. These are naturally funny people and we are glad that we could capture lightning in this week's bottle.

But they we settle down after a while and talk about the secrets to controlling your pre-show stress and how to deliver a "solid" show and having energy in your show to elicit standing ovations.

Performer: Bill Malone* Bill Malone is an American magician specialized in card magic, close-up magic and corporate events. Malone was reared in Chicago, Illinois and became interested in magic at the age of 17. He is a recipient of the Merlin Award from the International Magicians Society.

Time stamps for this podcast:

00:08:45 - Bill Malone along with Charlie Frye and Company (his wife, Sherry) join Scott for some hilarity but also some serious talk about their careers on stage, on the trade showroom floor, handling stress and pre-show jitters, and travels around the world.

00:45:04- Product Review: "Smooth Prediction" by the Other Brothers: a trick pack of cards that takes the traditional "Mene Tekel" deck to new heights with new twists. Moderately recommended.

00:50:15 - Product Review: "Finger Flasher" by Brocco: a handheld device for igniting flash paper/cotton. Well made and recommended if you use or need a flash of fire from your hand.

00:52:55 - Product Review: "Suspend" by Richard Griffin: a gimmick added to a Sharpie used for lifting a "pop top" can (beer, soda, energy drink, etc.). Recommended

341: Houdini-Opoly with Dick Brookz and Dorothy Dietrich

Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brookz own and operate the Houdini Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania. They have both led extraordinary lives and worthy of talking more about their Houdini museum, the Houdini seance, and the former Magic Townhouse in New York City. They talk about all these things but the purpose of this particular podcast is to help the magic world learn more about their newest project, "Houdini-Opoly"

They have been working on this board game for over two years and with the Kickstarter campaign now being fully funded just before this podcast was released. So not it's on to meet their "stretch" goals to pay for the "enhancements". Thanks to your support, it appears that it will be in production soon this year. The Magic Word Podcast is selective in providing a platform for promoting individuals or pet projects. But this is one I support and think is of particular interest to our community. But even if you choose not to support the cause and buy a game, the rest of our chat is interesting as we talk about the old Magic Townhouse in New York City and why it closed and the museum moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania. We also discuss the Houdini seance and the museum.

Help the Kickstarter Campaign and get your "one of a kind" collectible Houdini board game. You can't escape the fun!

What a great, action-packed, adrenaline-laced, fast-paced movie. I recommend watching part one (Dead Reckoning) to catch up from where we left off two years ago. Best to see this on the big screen. Recommended!
