959: Dean Carnegie - The Magic Detective

Dean Carnegie is the host of The Magic Detective podcast. He has blown past 100 episodes and there appears no stopping in sight. His podcast takes deep dives into the lives and worlds of magicians (mostly from yesteryear) and released sporadically as his research unearths something of interest. Beyond his podcast and blogging, he is also an accomplished artist having painted the visages of several magicians from our history.

717: Erik Tait - The Voice Behind the Mic

As the host of the Penguin Podcast, Erik Tait is the “Voice of Penguin Magic.” Each week he shares the mic with other magicians as he talks about magic and the occasional ad thrown in here and there. More than a “voice” Erik is the “real deal” as he has his own creations and proven “chops” as he teaches and performs close-up magic. Over the past few years he has set his sites on competing in the World Championships of Magic (FISM). That meant several, and I mean several, practice sessions and performances that all led up to his appearance as a competitor in Quebec this past summer. It was worth it and paid off as Erik took home third place in Card Magic against a sea of competitors from around the world.

This is the video discussed by Erik early in the episode that he and others spent a lot of time to produce. BTW, this would be a great deck to use for your Halloween parties!

467: Michael Goudeau - Everything Falls

467 banner.jpg

Michael Goudeau is a very clever fellow. Not only is he a juggler and a former Ringling Bros. clown, but he is also a comedy writer and co-host on “Penn’s Sunday School” podcast. He was one of the featured performers/lecturers at the recent MagiCuba convention in Havana. In his lecture, Michael taught the basics of comedy writing and the easy formula for writing your own script. He recaps the highlights of that lecture in this week’s podcast.
