401: David Berglas - International Man of Mystery, Part Two

This week we present the second installment of our two-part podcast with David Berglas. Last week we talked about his work on British television and this week we talk about his career in the film industry and people he worked with and knew. Also, David has a profound sense of "giving back" to our community. He is a supporter of the Capetown (South Africa) College of Magic. He is the founder of the "David Berglas International Award of Magic" which has been presented to Uri Geller, David Copperfield, Juan Tamariz, Lu Chen, Derren Brown, Jeff McBride, Dynamo and Penn & Teller.

243: Tea TIme with Paul Daniels hosted by Luis de Matos

FISM is more than just days of contests and shows. There are also schedule lectures and "talks". One such "talk" that was a regular feature on several days of the congress was "Tea Time With..." hosted by Luis de Matos. Each day Luis spent an hour interviewing legendary magicians including Paul Daniels, Silvan, Lu Chin and Cyril. When it came to chatting with Paul, all Luis had to do was ask one question and Paul filled in the rest with amazing stories. This man has lead a charmed life and his future looks bright, too!

I chatted with Paul earlier during the first day of the congress and posted our brief conversation. My regular listeners will remember the two part podcast that was broadcast earlier this year (#206 and #207). I asked if I could record the lecture in the hall for broadcast and Paul said, "I don't know that many other people will want to hear all of this from me again." I disagreed because I knew he would relate new and different stories than those he related in the aforementioned podcasts. So, he relented and graciously agreed to allow me to record and share this podcast with you. 172: Part 5 - My Week at The Castle 2014

In this final installment from My Week at The Castle, we wrap up by giving blood...literally. The Magic Castle became "Castle Dracula" (my own moniker) where you left your blood. It was the first Red Cross blood donation drive at The Magic Castle. This was spurred by Paul Green who has been experiencing health issues that frequently require blood transfusions. I just came in for lunch but got so much more by giving back a little of myself. There were 31 people who gave the gift of life. Please consider donating in your community. The life you save may be someone you love.

While at the Castle this day, I ran into and chatted with Irene Larsen, matriarch of the Magic Castle and the International Ambassador of The Magic Castle. After lunch, I went next door to talk with Dale Hindman, Executive Director of Milt Larsen Enterprises, who helped unravel the mystery (to me) of the difference between the Academy of Magical Arts and the Magic Castle.

Back at the Castle after my last show of the evening, I sat down with President Bill Clinton impersonator and magician, Tim Smallwood. He has a unique act and character that takes him across the country where he performs magic and makes guest "celebrity" appearances. Later that evening I ran into Ray Kosby, former member of The Magic Castle Juniors, who talks about that organization and the early years. And to wrap up the night and this podcast, Jonathan Pendragon and his wife, West, talk about their new show and lives together.
