589: Harrison Greenbaum - Taking a Shvitz

589 banner best.jpg

More than a magician and more than a comedian, Harrison Greenbaum is in high demand. Our industry refers to those of us who are “comedy magicians” like Mac King, for example. But for someone who stand behind a microphone without any accoutrements and makes people laugh, well…that is a true comedian. Harrison is also well versed as a magician having attended then later taught at Tannen’s Magic Cam and performing magic at magic conventions and corporate banquets. But to the general public, Harrison is best known as a stand-up comic from his many appearances at nightclubs, on television and in theaters around the world including the Sydney Opera House.

Harrison makes his late night stand-up debut with a set that goes from Russia to Mars.

In this week’s episode, Harrison talks about his work in stand-up comedy, his improvisational skills, plus he gives us a little peek into what is in his magic lecture called “You Are All Terrible” that he gives at magic conventions and online.

499: David Regal - Scene and Heard

499 banner.jpg

While attending the 2019 F.F.F.F. convention, my voice was hoarse but it did not prevent me from recording an outstanding conversation with one of our craft’s most creative writers, David Regal. David is a producer of “The Carbonaro Effect”, one of the more popular TV shows in America. He is also author of “Approaching Magic” and a new book, “Interpreting Magic”, that will soon be on the market. David also is a favorite performer at the Magic Castle and creator of several original, marketed effects. And as if that isn’t enough, he is a scriptwriter for television sitcoms.

In this episode, David tells us about what it’s like to produce hit television shows, plus some interesting stories and philosophies about magic, performing and creating.

467: Michael Goudeau - Everything Falls

467 banner.jpg

Michael Goudeau is a very clever fellow. Not only is he a juggler and a former Ringling Bros. clown, but he is also a comedy writer and co-host on “Penn’s Sunday School” podcast. He was one of the featured performers/lecturers at the recent MagiCuba convention in Havana. In his lecture, Michael taught the basics of comedy writing and the easy formula for writing your own script. He recaps the highlights of that lecture in this week’s podcast.

What a great, action-packed, adrenaline-laced, fast-paced movie. I recommend watching part one (Dead Reckoning) to catch up from where we left off two years ago. Best to see this on the big screen. Recommended!
